The idea of writing some variations on the work "Cançons de Mare" was born in April 2020, at the
height of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a very difficult time for everyone, when the long hours without leaving the house gave rise to many ideas, including the idea of composing two short pieces for requinto. This piece was originally conceived for clarinet picc. Mib solo, as if it were the Hommages of Bela Kovács, but after hearing it, my friend Martínez Gallego, one of the great composers of this country and one of the most important composers in the world for this small instrument, suggested that I write the accompaniment for piano. I thought the idea was wonderful and finished it in October 2020.
"Cançons de Mare" is a work that marked my youth, an emotional work that I remember with great
affection.
Late March 2020. I am having serious trouble falling asleep. Between light and darkness I see the reflection of the starry sky in my window, the glow of a cigarette on my terrace, the light of my mobile phone screen…
It is 3:27 in the morning, another night without sleep, and I begin to write music, tired of tossing and turning in bed. Meanwhile, in other places, nurses and doctors can no longer go on. Everything is chaos; the future is our oldest dream.
From these premises GLOOM emerged, a brief 2'30" piece written as an improvisation for solo E-flat clarinet (piccolo clarinet).
My first composition.

This adaptation for piccolo clarinet and clarinet quartet was born from the need to expand the solo repertoire for the piccolo clarinet. It was one of my earliest explorations of the instrument as both a solo and chamber music voice. The premiere took place at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Tenerife in 1997.
The adaptation includes the solo piccolo clarinet part, full score, and individual parts for Clarinet 1, 2, 3, and Bass Clarinet. It can also be performed with an expanded clarinet section, turning it into a full clarinet ensemble.
Pure virtuosity. Enjoy it!
